WiFi optimization for a 400 user environment (Ubiquiti)

A 400+ person organization suffered slow WiFi, dropouts, and weak coverage in dense areas. We redesigned the wireless estate on UniFi for capacity, segmentation, and centralized control.

Introduction

A rapidly growing organization with over 400 employees was experiencing persistent WiFi issues, slow speeds, frequent dropouts, and unreliable connectivity in high density areas such as meeting rooms and open workspaces. Their existing network infrastructure had evolved organically, resulting in poor coverage, interference, and a lack of centralized management.

Outcome

We transformed their network into a high performance, enterprise grade WiFi environment built on Ubiquiti technology. The result was seamless connectivity across all floors, consistent performance under peak load, and full visibility into network health. Employee productivity improved immediately, and IT overhead related to connectivity issues dropped significantly.

What we did

We began with a full wireless site survey, identifying dead zones, interference sources, and suboptimal access point placement. Based on this, we redesigned the network architecture using Ubiquiti UniFi access points, strategically placed for optimal coverage and capacity.

We implemented centralized network management via the UniFi Controller, enabling real time monitoring, automated updates, and performance insights. VLAN segmentation was introduced to separate guest, employee, and IoT traffic, improving both security and performance.

Finally, we optimized channel selection, transmit power, and roaming behavior to ensure smooth transitions between access points, even during high density usage.

Why it worked

This project succeeded because we combined data driven design with scalable technology. Instead of simply adding more access points, we engineered a network tailored to user behavior and physical space. Ubiquiti’s ecosystem provided enterprise level control without unnecessary complexity or cost, allowing the client to scale confidently as they grow.
